Review: History is sometimes unfair. Explain why it is putting some movies in its annals, and some other covers with the dust of oblivion? Why, for example, a nice and good film “Byleth: The Demon of Incest” by Leopoldo Savona was forgotten? Perhaps because the fashion for this “gothic” came only a couple of decades? And in the early seventies “cruel romance” of forbidden passion with a mystical aura seemed to be too pretentious, snobbish, and irrelevant?
The film is referred to the middle of the XIX century to the era, which seems romantic as our contemporaries, and from the beginning of the 70s of last century … The women in crinolines, the men in showy uniforms, and courageous, brave lancers, yet nice aristocracy – this is the external environment on which the action develops. Count Lionello (Mark Damon) travels to his native estate, where there was no long time ago, hoping to meet with his lover and his sister, Barbara (Claudia Gravy), but she turns out to that time to get married. At the same time as the castle itself, and in the neighboring town, strange murders, whose victims are women only. The investigation leads the local judge in the estate of Count Lionello, which holds the ancient secret of witchcraft …
It is not that of the events of the film is breathtaking – quite the contrary. Savona is focusing on small details, the interiors, landscapes, close-ups of the characters, wonderful music Vassil Kodzharova, and much less attention to the action. No horror, no, actually, a thriller in the film
