Description: Door to Silence is the last film Lucio Fulci directed and it is one of the most unusual in his filmography. It’s not a real horror film, even though it does contain elements of horror; nor is it a thriller. It could best be described as a “surreal horror film on the road”, a metaphysical and symbolic journey in search of terrible truths (…) Fulci was particularly fond of Door to Silence, it was one of the films he felt the most affinity with. It is a sophisticated and complicated film, which initially no one wanted to produce. But then Aristide Massaccesi revealed himself to be the perfect person to produce it. Even though he created a film which lacked the delirious and bloody impact so typical of his most famous films, Fulci proved he was able to direct an equally terrifying and deeply disturbing horror film, entirely focused on psychological atmospheres and which remains in the filmic memory of all the fans of “the poet of cruelty”.

Interesting movie…in a Twilight Zone kind of way. The plot is pretty tired by now, and the story itself is full of holes. For instance: Death’s confusion between the towns of Abbeville and Winnfield, La. I Guess Death (with her lame-ass license plate) has been doing this for so long that she just gets confused sometimes. Worth a watch, however, for those who enjoy the Twilight Zone.
