Description: A priest wants revenge for his brother’s murder.
IMDB’s long summary short, Father Virgil Garrett seeks revenge for the death of his brother. Garrett was a former mob hitman turned Catholic priest, and the jerk responsible for his brother’s death is the cocky, asshole son of Virgil’s former boss. Other crime stuff and detective work occurs along the way.
Starring, written, and produced by Ivan Rogers (1954-2010, RIP), Forgive Me Father had a very small theatrical run in 2001.
The general vibe, violence and wardrobe really make this seem like it was made several years beforehand. I personally think it’s a little too long but it’s still good tasteless fun with plenty of clunky acting, but Rogers’ vanity project is pretty damned sincere. This film was released in the US with a pretty crappy DVD presentation (my encode doesn’t look too much worse than the source) and was also released in a “Christianized” version called On Fire on the budget label Digiview; boobies, cursing and a love scene were cut, but all the violence was left in, hooray! I think there’s an Australian DVD available but I have no idea of its quality.
