Description: The “plot”, such as it is, has something to do with one-foot-in-the-grave John Carradine experimenting with microbes from Venus to create a “fountain of youth” serum.  God knows John really needed this at this point.  The serum falls into the hands of fading movie queen Lynn Roman (Bobbie Bresee), who uses it to regain her lost youth so she can return to her former cinematic glory.  Unfortunately, the serum has a few minor side effects, such as transforming her into a towering murderous bug monster whenever she gets horny.  But hey, that’s Hollywood.  Sometimes you just need to turn into a giant killer bug just to get a break in this town. Richard Harrison, the main star of this movie can be found in this women in prison movie.

Review: EVIL SPAWN began its misbegotten cinematic life as a reel of John Carradine footage shot by Fred Olen Ray for an aborted project that would have been titled FRANKENSTEIN’S BRAIN.  Eventually these scenes were turned over to Kenneth J. Hall (Halfway House) and co-director Ted Newsom (ED WOOD: LOOK BACK IN ANGORA), who built a movie around them – and thus EVIL SPAWN was born!  Still later, the film resurfaced in a radically reedited form with newly shot footage as THE ALIEN WITHIN.  Al Adamson would have been proud!  Watch for a cameo from Famous Monsters creator Forrest J. Ackerman as a pool cleaner!
