Description: After the death of her father, young Alice is sent to live with Squire Fairfield and his two sons. As years pass, Alice ages into a beautiful adult, believing that the hard-boiled Squire is her generous and kind benefactor until one evening he makes an unwanted advancement. Unbeknownst to the Squire, Alice had already fallen in love with his son, Charles, with whom she elopes to Wyvern Manor soon after. In fear of the Squire’s rath, Alice is isolated within the manor where she begins having night terrors and experiencing strange occurrences.

There’s tragedy, treachery, love, betrayal, mystery, murder, and of course, the obligatory mad woman chained to the wall of a dark, dingy dungeon room. Based on the novel by the famed French Gothic writer, Sheridan Le Fanu (who wrote the Carmilla vampire novel, among other creepy books), “The Wyvern Mystery” is a tasty piece of drama that only the British seem to do well. Although it lacks the lushness and saturated colors of a 60s Hammer Film, it has that sort of flavor to it
