Description: In a psychiatric clinic for rich women, dies murdered, one after another, a nurse and two patients, while an arrow hit another woman. The guilty is a masked man. The police decide to set up a trap, but the line of murdering isn’t still over.
To my mind, the best looking and longest available prints of Di Leo’s sleazy, bonkers giallo classic – surely one of ther most over-the-top movies in the whole giallo genre. Giallo buffs already know this one – a castle (filled with medieval weaponry) has been converted into an asylum for mentally-ill young women. A long-haired loon in a black cape uses said weaponry to annihilate patients and staffs, whilst the suspicious doctor (Kinski, subdued here for once) looks dodgy and chain-smokes incessantly. Despite some pretty nasty and graphic murders, and the silliness of what goes on, the film looks and sounds superb – the widescreen photography makes such a difference, and lets you appreciate just how well-shot the film was. Plus, lots of nudity helps as well – mainly from Neri, who pretty much steals the film. Now why can’t every film have Rosalba Neri (The Demon Lover and 99 Women) nudity in it?
