Description: Four drug-thugs looking for money for the next dose capture the café, but is frightened away by the police ran out, taking with him a couple of lovebirds hostages will always come in handy. Escaping from the pursuit trio of gangsters and two of their unwitting companions find themselves in a totally deserted place, where you bump into lonely-alone estate. In the manor house lives an old woman with her grandson, whose cheerful company too casually kills and goes on, not even knowing that her grandmother, it turns out was a secret adherent of Satan himself. And its patron, of course, is not going to descend from the hands of the death of his servant.
The plot of the Spanish horror film “Further Than Fear” does not leave the viewer doubts about the future of the finals, as well as eliminates any moral anguish: the Evil will be punished, surviving in the end will not. Moreover, the Director with the writers quickly cover the unfortunate hostages in the crimes of the gang, giving to understand that they too will not be sorry. So the only intrigue can only order the killing of actors and the way that Satan will take their souls.
However, and here Thomas Aznar was not to reinvent the wheel, bringing their anti-heroes in an abandoned Church somewhere in the Pyrenees that is five days away from the nearest human habitation. Mobility of young people, as you might guess, is also lost. Soon near the Church found herding sheep boy, after which the bandits with their unwitting accomplices begin to die various microviscosity ways. Not without emotion for the viewer’s nerves, with quite skillfully injected directorial hand tension and sometimes even unexpected (as it can be when such developments) plot moves.
Along the way, Mr. Aznar even manage to engage the audience some sympathy for his characters: what to do – difficult childhood, wooden toys… And so hysterical Lola, for which there is no difference whom to kill his navaja: the chicken or the person is white and fluffy (Raquel Ramirez struggling to find in his character at least some human qualities and not without success). Yes and her lover Chema – guy anywhere. He, of course, a cold-blooded killer, unlike her friend that cuts people obeying momentary emotion, but he pretend to be kind and sympathetic to calm down, for example, the hostage, cuddle baby. Then he will certainly kill… But reluctantly, solely to the extent necessary. Niko, the third member of the gang, often confused and shy young man, hiding behind feigned rudeness of his natural timidity, and kills only dazed. Damn drugs! In short, one way or another, but closer to the final Director raises the degree of sympathy for his characters, making the same already resigned to the inevitable audience, a little, but worry about their fate. Moreover, they got into the hands of no one else but the Devil himself.
As Jorge and Linda, the last participant played out on the screen of the tragedy, making them spineless and obedient to the fate of the sheep going to the slaughter, Aznar has unequivocally shown that the fate of these characters cared Director last. And began to be a spectator to experience because they don’t quite have. They simply increase the number of victims, pleasing the eyes of fans of slasher, and along the way are a good example of what nonresistance to Evil deserves the same punishment as Evil itself.
However, it is unlikely the filmmakers thought such philosophical categories. They just filmed a horror movie, which turned out to be entertaining, atmospheric and quite watchable, but to the status of a cult frankly did not. Still, the absence of any intrigue, positive character, as well as a large number of stamps do not allow to assess the situation highly enough. Damned old house, old witch, the catacombs with the rising from the graves of the dead, Evil, embodied in the child the impression that Aznar had collected in his film in line with the world of horror, to weave his quilt. However, to hide they can: as another scary bedtime stories “On the other side of fear” looks very convincing.
