Description: The second and last feature film made by amateur auteur Steve Barkett, EMPIRE OF THE DARK was fairly impossible to find for years after being made. Here, a doughy-enough-to-play-an-LA-cop Barkett stars as a poor officer of the law who has been unfortunate enough to make the association of a dimension-hopping cult of Satanic ninja led by the one and only Richard Harrison, who does his best impersonation of The Master from Manos: The Hands of Fate here. Fred Olen Ray co-produced this bizarre horror/sci-fi/action/drama, which also features some late ’80s/early ’90s bimbos, a shootout in a Holiday grocery store (watch out for that bread!), and – of course – Steve’s son, Christopher (who was well on his way to being just as doughy as his dear ol’ dad by this point, despite it being just eight years after The Aftermath).
