Description: Unjustly imprisoned, James escapes to return to his love. The girlfriend is a would-be singer, coveted by a rotten impresario. And the bastard is gradually mutating into a monster, too. That’s because the Shub Niggurat is invading our world, you see…
Filled with funny characters, monsters, buckets of gore, and songs.
Yes, Atomik Circus has tentacle-aliens-from-another-dimension that buzzed all the way here just to rip your head off.
It has a man whose face has been shredded away to grinning gristle, playing a small dog like an Benji-accordion. And Johnny Depp’s hot girlfriend sweating her way breathily through a song about Mustangs.
Yet while these may sound like the perfect ingredients for a deliciously bad movie, Atomik Circus is not a bad movie.
It is an incredibly good film, possibly made for the lovers of bad movies. Or possibly made for no discernible reason at all. But it is not an homage (although there’s a whiff of HP Lovecraft and The Green Slime to it), and not satire.
The ciematography is rich and buttery; the French 5.1 Dolby Digital is top-notch sound and fury, and the movie even has characters. Atomik Circus shoots straight for your sense of sight, sound and humor like a hot Avril-Lavigne-looking-vampire-chick darting for the soft part of your neck.
But don’t worry – despite how well-crafted and sensually French it is, the whole movie is spattered with blood and absurdity
