Description:
Beginning of the film Joe foreshadows another film about young people hippie generation , which include Melissa , the heroine of Susan Sarandon and her boyfriend Frank . He – the shopkeeper pills and ” grass “, also considers himself an artist , she is in love and devoted to him , and therefore tries to live his interests. Then one day a young girl enters the hospital , poisoned with drugs, and her wealthy dad pays a visit to Frank that would deal with him .
Next, the film is surprising that the emphasis switches to Melissa ‘s father Bill and his newfound friend accidentally Joe who learns about what ended that conversation with Frank . Joe and Billy – typical examples are not only two different ages, but also completely different social classes , since the first is four dollars per hour , and the second – sixty thousand a year .
And yet, they came together , and they share not only a common secret , as it seems at first glance, but a common vision – they are the spokesmen of the majority of the American population , which is too far from the musical , cultural and sexual revolution that rapidly flows among the young 60’s.
In the next part of the film, our ” druzhbany ” in search of Melissa , get to the youth party where their “hard” anti-drug beliefs and casual sex are common hypocrisy , if desired, are easily overcome .
The acting , especially by Dennis Patrick ( Billy ) and Peter Boyle (Joe) , low-key , but it is the spirit of the event. It was interesting to look at all Sarandon still very young – in my opinion, is quite unusual and good looks .
The film is interesting precisely because of its versatility : it draws some age and socio- cultural backgrounds in all their unattractiveness – addicts and hippies in this picture is terribly unpleasant. But Billy , he admits , are tired of living among the people in disguise, but he is not filming her throughout the film’s action , who can not admit to himself that he talks to Joe just because he’s afraid it – too damn unattractive type . But Joe himself , angry at all for the simple reason that this hatred and the desire to clean up – the only thing that gives meaning to his worthless life and raises in his own eyes .
The authors of the film do not blame anyone , but seeing the picture , you come to the conclusion that ” Joe ” and ” Bill “, in a sense, are themselves to blame in all of this turmoil that swept the world in the sixties . The tragic ending is unexpected, but it was he who makes the final verdict ordinary household hatred of parents in relation to the younger generation .
Despite forty years of age , the film has not lost relevance : I think that many of today’s young people , convinced that taking the drug , they open up America to be disappointed by the fact that until they have already done their ” ancestors ” – can be it will stop them .
