Description: The story goes like this. A girl is crazy. She likes to torture and kill people. A douchebag named Don Carpenter gets tortured in his basement, along with a bunch of other people. You never actually feel sorry for Don because he’s a royal twat. Even when his friends start showing up to the house, you could care less. Director Masciantonio fascinates me with this film. He’s got the effects pieces in place and the technical skills to make something good, but he completely lacks a story.
The cast is a mixed bag. America Olivo, everyone’s horror darling since the Friday the 13th remake, shows that she has some ability to play within the horror genre. Her mannerisms and acting are solid, and she definitely lands the craziness of the role as the film’s sadistic killer. The film’s supposed protagonist is played by Christian Campbell. As Don, Campbell sucks. I don’t know if it’s the writing or all the smug girlish looks that Campbell gives the camera, but every scene with him in it screams douchiness. When the killer whips out a drill and starts going to town with it, you kind of feel good about it. It’s almost as if Campbell’s lack of charisma is so bad that the killer actually becomes the protagonist. The rest of the cast is composed of mid-level actors who can occasionally land a solid line or two.
