Description: Circus monkeys hysterically scream in their cages, and outside, people die and kill each other. This is another circus – Spanish Civil War. Against his will Auburn clown drafted into the forces of militia and takes part in this massacre. In the fight against the soldiers of the National Guard, he is armed with machetes and dressed in a clown outfit.
Many years later, at the time of the dictator Franco, Javier, the son of the red-haired clown, finds a work as a White (sad) clown in a circus populated by wonderful characters. Now he is friends with a human cannonball and grumpy married couple dog trainer, and the arena became a partner of the Red Clown Sergio.
The heart of the story – tangled love triangle, in which Javier and Sergio, fueled by passion and hatred to each other, trying to win the love of the most beautiful women of the circus. Each of them is ready to accept death, but not a defeat in the battle for the fatal beauty.
Starring Antonio de la Torre, who also played in Dark Blue Almost Black
Review: “Balada triste de trompeta” – crazy kinokomiks shot in the spirit of the films of Quentin Tarantino and lies at the junction of a surreal black comedy and drama. Such a killer cocktail that blows the roof off the first “sip”, the audience did not serve quite a while. Without any lyric epigraphs director Alex de la Iglesia begins his belt with a few scenes treshovym the Spanish Civil War. Red-haired clown, shredding the Nazis machete and a crazy commander of the militia, shoot the enemies, like Max Payne … unprepared spectator at risk of falling into a state of stupor, looking at such blatant folly. But all this is only a prelude of major events, so if someone confuse scene with a red clown, the more it is better not to see all the crazy waiting ahead.
The wars and revolutions behind, but the dictatorship of General Franco’s Spain strangles, and the memory of the mass shootings, like a bleeding wound in the “body” of the country. “30 years of peace” – a slogan that sounds like an insult. During those thirty years, a small red-haired clown’s son, Javier grew up and went to his father’s footsteps, becoming a circus performer. It is, however, a sad clown, doomed to suffer eternal humiliation by the cheerful clown Sergio, not only on stage but also in life. Two opposites, faced foreheads, and between them a beauty Natalia, the only adequate person in the film. All it is, looks like a circus troupe existent rabble, and the circus, in turn, reduced the projection of the country. Natalia, a symbol of Spain, passed on from hand to hand as a burning in ecstasy violent orgies with Sergio, but stretching to a peaceful life with gentle Javier. But the opposition would be crushed on the pavement, it is absorbed into the hatred of the dictator Franco. And Xavier, in an effort to “liberate” Natalia becomes violent psychopath, ready to kill anyone who gets in his way. He flies into a rage gradually, like the hero of the parable of the eastern dragon, Javier takes over the features of his enemy. Two clowns – two rival factions. Between them – the birthplace of the dying, and around the circus madmen, each of which denied the charges against the motives for actions. Man-core and over again trying to perform a stunt, but his every attempt ends in failure, and trainers to help poodles secret oppositionist Javier, but openly support Sergio, symbolizing an open struggle fearing people. In a word – the circus!
And yet, “The Last Circus” – not mass reel of film, closer to the art house. The style on the verge of trash-filled inherent paintings of Salvador Dali and the early works of Eugene … not every viewer will be able to evaluate such appreciated. To some it will seem too bloody, and the scenes with naked Javier that eats carrion in the forest, easily inspire overly anxious audience shock. But those who are imbued with the spirit of a madman, whom Iglesia filled every frame of the child will be a standing ovation, as Tarantino.
“The Last Circus”, after news reports from the battlefield under the name of the Venice Film Festival, became my most anticipated film of the year. Not to say that I’m a fan of kitsch absurdistkih paintings, but in this case, the reviews promised an absolutely incredible and exciting spectacle, a real performance on the screen of Spanish kinodeltsa Alex de la Iglesia. As you know, the best advertising can only do viewers who are not interested in promoting the film in any way. And personally I can say that the “sad ballad for the pipe” exceeded all my expectations.
PS. “Sad Ballad for Trumpet” – the name of the song cult Spanish singer Raphael, symbol of the age in which the unfolding events of the film. The very composition of sounds in a movie once.

Strange little movie about a sad plump clown that becomes infatuated with a teasing trapeze artist, who herself is abused by her current lover…the violent happy drunk clown. Things get ugly and twisted, and people get dead. It’s difficult to root for any of the leads in this movie, because they all kinda suck. But the ending makes for a watchable flick. A saddening sadistic, morbidly masochistic, wanna kill yourself at the end of it, movie.
