Description:
In this unusual movie, an interviewer, who is never seen from the front on camera, is making a film by asking a prostitute, Angie, about her world. Candid and seductive, sometimes cheap, frequently sexy, and sometimes controlling, Angie sets the record straight. As she reveals herself layer-by-layer, she exposes the man who is interviewing her. Sometimes provocative and confronting; sometimes tender, poignant, and sexy, “Black and White and Sex” takes you behind the scenes and into Angie’s very special world, which, unlike the movie, is never black and white.
“Black and White and Sex” is an art-house film in its purest form. It is shot in black and white with sometimes-interesting camera work and editing. It switches back and forth between eight actresses playing the same person. The movie will not be interesting to everyone, but will be enlightening to many. Often, the movie is disheartening. John Winter, who both wrote and directed the movie, decided to make a truthful film about prostitution, using a unique approach in doing so. If you have never thought of prostitution as a social phenomenon, analyzed its causes, or have no idea how it works, “Black and White and Sex” will be a powerful revelation. If you already know a lot about the world of prostitution, it is unlikely that this film will teach you much new, though it does so with a playfully derisive tone.
