In this surreal, symbolic romantic movie about love and death, Olivero, is a poor, young poet who does occasional work for advertising agencies in order to earn money. He has bedded many women in Buenos Aires, where he lives, but is looking for the woman of his dreams – one who can fly. If a woman cannot fly, after making love with her, he disposes of her.
One day when he is In Montevideo, he meets a beautiful, sexy 30-year-old prostitute, Ana, with whom he falls in love. He has sex with her, paying her for her her services, and returns to Buenos Aires, where he is followed by a beautiful woman in black, La Muerte (death.) La Muerte tells him about an opening in an advertising agency. Sometimes childlike, Olivero argues. He argues with himself. He argues with La Muerte, whom he propositions, but she rejects him.
He makes another visit to see Ana in Montevideo, where they are again lovers. Again he pays her. While they are making love, La Muerte appears, but only Olivero sees her. When they are finished, Ana tells him that she must see a client and that he must leave. Heartbroken, back in Buenos Aires, Olivero takes a job to earn the money to pay Ana for three days of love- making. Will love prevail against death; can Ana can fly?
