Description: French Filmmaker, Catherine Breillat’s adaption of Bluebeard by Charles Perrault. The movie tells two stories simultaneously: one is about two young sisters who come across the book, Bluebeard, while exploring the attic of a house. They read it to each and become the narrators of the second story. The second story is about two sisters whose father has just died. They are thrown out of private school, and one of them ends up marrying Bluebeard, a aristocrat with a bluish beard who is known to marry very young women who disappear mysteriously afterward. While its surprising and rather sick that this young woman is forced to act like an adult, its even stranger that the two young girls reading the book comment so intellectually and maturely about the book and the nature of existence.

Catharine Breillat is known for sexually explicit movies such as Anatomy of Hell and Sex is Comedy. This movie, however, has none of that and is rather boring. Don’t listen to me, though, judge for yourself…Also, those Hard-Coded English subtitles were already burned into picture on DVD. I would never use them myself, as soft-coded subs are always preferable.
