Description: One of the last few movies directed by Teruo Ishii, Screwed ( Neji-shiki) is a dark and twisted trip of a movie. Personally I was left guessing as to what it was all about in the end, especially with the bookended frantic dances of the naked strange, deteriorating people. However there were plenty of lasting images I took away with me in my back pocket, which is to say Teruo Ishii will never let you down with the visuals that etch themselves into your brain. Starts out with a fairly straightforward story, Tadanobu Asano playing a struggling manga artist who seems to be an enemy to himself. His life is unraveling and it’s only getting worse. But once he takes off out of that cramped shared apartment, it’s into the cinematic rabbit hole you go. Pretty cracked out stuff, of which Ishii is the master.
