Description: Eleven years after SOTTO IL VESTITO NIENTE, the team of the Vanzina brothers and veteran giallo screenwriter Franco Ferrini return to the genre with a film that’s practically a remake of their previous collaboration, this time set in the world of high class prostitution. Suspension of disbelief is a major requisite here (too many improbabilities – check out the rear view mirror ‘solution’) but the set-up is satisfyingly kinky, the camerawork fluid, the surroundings appropriately lush, and most importantly, the girls are gorgeous.
The plot of Squillo gives the radio announcement of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Even for the inhabitants of Eastern Europe opens the possibility of going abroad for groped to change their lives. Eva, a young Polish to Milan from there and writes frequently for the family calm. After seven years, Eva’s younger sister, Mary, coming to Milan for a surprise visit. Eva is now a beautiful and elegant girl, lives in a luxurious apartment, and the legitimate question of what to do for Mary to have this lifestyle, responding to work as an interpreter for important business. The two sisters are toasting, when a call arrives and Eva out for a sudden event. Mary falls asleep watching television and the next morning he realizes that his sister has not returned. Visited the Palace Hotel, meeting place, Mary is informed that right there the night before there was an important convention of the multinational Neotech: a showcase of the hotel, a photograph depicts Eve with a girl in the background of the banner of Neotech. With this photo, Mary goes to the police. After a brief conversation, the inspector Toni understands the situation and immediately inform Mary that Eva is not the job of the interpreter but the “ring”, so you just have patience and wait for the return. But Mary is not satisfied with easy, being in possession of mobile forgotten Eve pretends to be her sister, responds to customer calls, go to appointments with them to try to get news of her sister. Is exposed to risks so strong, before which the inspector can not remain indifferent while away from the service, decided to continue the investigation along with the girl, accompanying her to meetings and intervening in critical situations. Passing big risks, the two discover that Eve was murdered. Then insist the game dangerous contact strangers and, after trading in person and chases, the head of the murder is exposed is one of the senior officials of Neotech. Mary, left alone, back in the big house of his sister. The phone rings. Mary looks at him and does not know whether to answer.
Critique The brothers Charles and Henry Vanzina suits especially the comedy (in fact children of Steno). When tested on the yellow (in the last twenty years has happened to them more than once) instead of struggling to convince, while always displaying a certain elegance of ways, from drawings. (Time, Gian Luigi Rondi, 11/04/1996) Where do Vanzina detectives are very types of filmgoers. And Ringing resort to Dario Argento and Brian DePalma, respectively evoked settings for plastics and the poetics of “double” (or for music by Pino Donaggio). The locations of Milan are already sending winks, luxurious: the prehistoric museum (where “mentioning” the famous sequence of Angie Dickinson in “Moma” in Dressed to Kill), the Hotel Principe di Savoia, the presidential suite.
