  Although it doesn’t contain much sex OR plot (but the women are certainly pretty), Permissive is still a fascinating movie. Intentional or not, it almost works as a documentary of London’s transition from ‘swinging’ to ‘stagnant’ as the city begins a sharp economic decline. It also presents the music scene as a magnet for the unstable, emotionally stunted, and merely unambitious.

  It also manages to be both technically inept (boom shadows!) and inventive at the same time, with quick flash-forwards showing pivotal events in characters’ near futures. Well worth a look, and surprisingly intelligent. Comus’ psych-folk tunes are a welcome addition, too.
