Description: The film Piece of Sky tells about the opposition of women prisoners and group workers in the factory. In this French movie, conditions for inmates at a prison are compared to those of people working at a plant that produces pastry. It is the tale of two women who were once friends when they worked together at the plant. One of them, Joanna, committed unspecified crimes for which she has been incarcerated in a women’s prison. Her lawyer is trying to get her freedom on the grounds that she has been unjustly convicted. While she still worked at the plant, Joanna was a leader of the employees. The second woman, Claudine, continues to work at the plant, where she is the leader of a union which opposes an agreement that management wants the employees, all of whom are women, to sign. While the two worked together, they had a difference over what approach to take in dealing with management. Claudine stopped what Joanna had started. Both women are convinced that they were right and are estranged as a result. Both women want freedom for themselves and for those whom they lead. Both women have difficulty compromising. Both women are frustrated in their attempt to accomplish their goals.
