This French sex comedy was released in 1968 in the United States with what then was then an X rating (sexual subject matter; little nudity. ) It is significant for having Catherine Deneuve in its cast. Benjamin, a handsome, naive, virgin arrives at the castle of his much older but still-beautiful aunt, the Countess de Vallery (Michelle Morgan) with his tutor Camille. Once there, his aunt’s lover, Count Phillipe, becomes his mentor in the art of love. The movie shows Benjamin learning from numerous beautiful young women, including pretty maids, Anne de Clecy (Deneuve,) and even the Countess herself. Lessons begin the first night and continue through a grand party the following evening. Directed by Michelle Deville, Benjamin is a classic European comedy of the time. It is not a masterpiece, but the light-hearted and witty movie is worthy of respect.
