Description: Ida and Albin are a happy couple. They set off to a cabin in the vast Swedish woodlands to have a fun holiday with their friends. But under the floorboards waits an evil from Sweden’s dark past.
Nordic countries in recent years began to produce the screens more and more films in the horror genre. Among the most interesting we can mention projects such as the trilogy of “lost”, the series “Dead snow”, “Glacier”, “the Sixth floor” and some others. The quality of execution they rarely make it to Hollywood horror, but places them and to contend with the slope in their favour. Especially European filmmakers from the North like to enter in the stories of mythological creatures from ancient legends of their countries. Primarily on that specific picture comes to mind of the “Troll Hunters”, which is preparing a remake of the Chris Columbus and the promising but disappointing “Tail”, which tells about a wild female tribe of fantastic creatures. In this list we can safely add the movie Sonny Lagoon and Tommy of Wiklund called “Wither “, which also shamelessly speculating in its official description of the fact that the monsters here are also from Nordic half-forgotten legends. But don’t count on some kind of universal mystery, the mystery entertaining and inspiring — you and I have to settle for the real youth slasher on the subject of the walking dead, which is flavored with a lot of Hollywood cliches, liters of blood, causing the gag reflex make-up, and a bunch of trash episodes. But we could put a picture of the Swedes on the bottom of the bar — all these components merged into a rather charming sight, even for fans of tough cinema.
The plot of the film is another option for young people travel to a country house, situated in impenetrable woods (Hello “the Cabin in the woods”, “evil dead”). As it turns out, this house is located in a fairly derelict state and the son of its owner, Albino worth a lot of effort to get into it with his fiancee IDA and a whole crowd of friends. And the first night the friends realize that someone with an ulterior motive barricaded the building, but the basement lives on something that takes the souls of the visitors, and their body turns into a kind of zombie that pounces on everyone, turning people into their kind. Opens eyes to the situation, a surprise visit from a middle-aged man who lost his whole family due to the evil basement. But even knowing the problems can help friends in the fight against an ancient evil that fills their bodies with its essence…
Do not expect this picture of a special European style and even Nordic tranquility. It’s a real trash-horror that only ends with the final credits. The main monsters here are exactly infected young people. But to call them classic zombie is absolutely impossible. Despite the fact that they constantly tear someone to bite, nevertheless the infected can more or less speak intelligently, and are capable of more indirect action than just going by the smell of fresh meat. This factor is the main highlight, taken from the legends. If you delve into this question, you are to blame for all the disasters, there is some ancient power that dwells beneath the earth. She’s punishing all undesirable, which occupy their buildings, unspoiled nature. Well, the meeting with this force turns the infection and zombie effect.
Almost all the film takes place in the house and nearby forest. Thus all the scenes of the action are reduced to familiar scenes locked in the bathroom, demolition and goals simply by removal of the brain, both literally and figuratively. Nothing outstanding here, but at the same time is very dynamic and even too natural (in the sense of makeup and amputation). In the principle of “Undead” is a zombie horror film made for little money, but it has not lost its technical beauty.
In the end I want to say that “Vittra” — not outstanding, but far from a flop film at the real bloody issues. And it is worth watching only those spectators who are not averse to forgive the creators of the primitive story in favor of the cruel feast.
