Description:
Comedy drama about a group of mates who run foul of local hood Gordy Metcalf (played by real-life shithouse Dave Courtney) and his equally unpleasant family.
When Danny has his van taken by loan sharks working for Metcalf, he makes the not so wise decison to steal it back. In the process he decides to play Robin Hood, only to end up grabbing the deeds to some land which are going to make the Metcalfs a lot of money. Unsurprisingly, they’re rather keen to get them back, whatever it takes…
Eventually a plot emerges when our hero and his equally dopy mates team up with a disgruntled greyhound trainer out for revenge on Metcalf, leading to a grand finale at… Peterborough dog track (hey, I didn’t say it was a good plot!). A scattergun approach to comedy occasionally hits the mark, but overall results in a poor rate of returns. Towards the climax there is a suggestion of a better film trying to emerge as the broad humour is nicely juxtaposed with what promises to be a much darker ending, but even this results in a disappointing cop-out. However, if any of this sort of thing floats your boat, it’s your lucky day
