Description: From the 2006 French Film Festival, The Ring Finger is adapted from the Japanese cult novel by Yoko Ogawa, about a young girl’s saucy affair with her boss. The central performance by Ukrainian ex-model Olga Kurylenko is exceptional and her natural, radiant beauty is mesmerising.
After accidentally chopping off the tip of her ring finger in a workplace accident, attractive factory worker Iris decides to leave her job and start afresh in a nearby port town. While searching for a new job, Iris is forced to share a hotel room with an introverted sailor whom she rarely sees. Iris eventually finds employment as an office assistant in a laboratory that oddly preserves and stores artefacts and personal belongings, no matter what the object. Both intrigued and slightly disturbed by her enigmatic boss, Iris becomes involved in a sexy, highly erotic affair. Minimal dialogue accompanied by the languid tunes of Portishead’s Beth Gibbons gives the film a surreal and moody edge.
