2003? French? Yeah…whatever. Most French flicks don’t deserve to be mentioned and this one included. Of course people who killed zillions of Vietnamese for fun, get kicked in an ass and learned nothing I wont expect much but on top of this stupidity they moved straight to Algiers and started same game–no respect from me.

^ ^ ^ What a very bizarre comment. People who don’t like French films are missing out on some of the best cinema there is.
But dragging Vietnam into it betrays a profound ignorance. It’s true the French killed a lot of Vietnamese (and a lot of French soldiers were killed by Vietnamese) before ultimately conceding it was not a war they could win. At least they learned the lesson, unlike the Americans, who were urging the French to keep their colony (so they could grow rubber and pay back war debts to the US) before taking over the war, killing far more Vietnamese, and expanding the war into Cambodia, before ultimately admitting their own defeat. Presumably we should hate American cinema too? Dear, oh dear. Better to leave politics and a tenuous grasp of history out of one’s appreciation of film.
