Description: The beginning of the twentieth century. Parish brothel, on its last legs. Long scar on the face of one of the prostitutes – though tragic smile. In this closed from the world world, invisible from the outside, is a lifetime, men fall in love or hate, and women share the joys, sorrows, fears and secrets …
Review: The film – a gloomy elegy about life of Parish House of tolerance. Here, the rich men languishing with champagne and tobacco, while the beautiful young women hug and pat them on the plush sofa.
You can draw parallels with the public house and the society of the time, but the time we are given only as a fact, it is not felt while watching, exactly like the scene, outside the home after a movie comes out only once. Bertrand Bonello was able to show everything about the life of elite prostitutes, and do it with such a professional finesse that intricate plot twists even as it prevents just contemplating life of high society. Music from the middle of the XX century, migrated to the end of XIX, intelligently woven into the lifeless atmosphere of a brothel, the scenery is amazing luxury. All this is accompanied by a good camera work and melancholic soundtrack from the director himself. A whole group of unknown French actress appears here in a charming and painful world of courtesans, ceased to fight for his life, only increasing the already large debts. Each of the actresses in place and difficult to distinguish among them home: each feature, each with something to remember and attracts with incredible force.
