Description: I have reviewed a lot of romantic movies , and must admit I am very hard to impress . But this film, I was expecting something totally new , very interesting. To my pleasant surprise, the film made even Unexpected furor.
In this Dutch love story with English subtitles, Stijn is a hedonistic, self-centered, advertising executive with a beautiful wife, Carmen (Carice van Houten.) They live a terrific life in Amsterdam but decide to move to Amstelveen where they raise a child, Luna. Carmen is aware that Stijn has had numerous affairs but tolerates them as a bad habit. Once in Amstelveen, Carmen is diagnosed with breast cancer. While Stijn is supportive of Carmen as she goes through onerous cancer treatments, he has a continuing affair with a woman named Roos – an affair about which he, initially, lies to Carmen. Eventually, Stijn admits to Carmen that he has been having an affair with Roos and ends it. Nevertheless, when Carmen’s condition gets worse, she gives him permission to have sex with other women. Tragedy follows.
