Description: Damned If You Don’t is a true value. Wonderfully recorded in the b & w mode, it combines traditional communicative method with impressionistic camerawork, signs and voicovers to produce a romantic learn of intimate phrase and repression. It starts with footage from a fashionable old potboiler about an separated convent, whose story of passions leashed and revealed supplies the leitmotif for a young lesbo who sees it and the lonely nun she pursues and seduces. As the two ladies’ lives come nearer to joining, voiceovers from the resource of a 16th century lesbian nun and the reminiscences of a woman’s closeted romances at a Catholic college flesh out the theme. When the two women finally meet and make passion, the woman’s careful unwrapping of the nun’s complex prison of clothing is both arousal and publishing metaphor. The film is as hypnotic as a dream.
