Description: In the early 1900’s Dr. Josef Brenner (Ulrich Thomsen) starts working at and asylum. But he is less worried about patients and more worried about getting the next dose of morphine to keep his private vice, as he believes that only the drug can make him overcome the writer’s block affecting him.

He then writes a diary where he recollects his dope trips and his several sessions of sex with lonely or desperate women from the asylum.

His scheme goes rather well until he becomes obsessed with one particular patient, Gizella Klein (Kirsti Stubø), a virgin that believes the devil is trying to take hold of her soul through the sexual desires she feels.

The Doctor will come to fight with his colleagues because of this obsession, spending all his time going through Gizella’s writings that he finds fascinating but everyone else sees as incoherent ramblings. And he will end up putting himself on the observatory chair in order to ease the pain his patient feels.

The producers describe it as a “Faustian tale of obsession, addiction, and madness.”

Review: A screen adaptation of the rare writer Géza Kata, one of the most unusual dekadantskih minds of the Austro-Hungarian cultural space. Hedonism and cynicism go hand in hand with sharpness of mind, evident in both the main character and his creator.

Visuals, music, monologues in the film create a unique mood, a reflection of the inner world of piecewise-defined personality. Give the viewer a feel for how feels being mentally ill – that is out of touch with the world familiar to us. Madness is not scary and not fun, it’s loneliness, night, nostalgia, in themselves.

The film is called “Opium”, and the drugs have no meaning to the story and, in general, a decisive attitude. A bit of context “Journal of the young doctor” and “Morphine” in Bulgakov. Sort of like a red thread, but not really about that.

Cat sitting on the needle itself most of his life, worked on sexual abuse, fratricide and other dark things in English, German, Spanish, Italian. At age 32, killed his wife and tried to kill himself, it was possible to 2 times. On its products put ballet and opera.

Unable to break away from the viewer. The film Opium: Diary of a Madwoman strangely intertwined aesthetic beauty and ugliness, and the second more. On the background of all this ugliness is especially remarkable beauty and palpable.

Strong impression. It has long been looking at me like movies did not work. At one point, caught what I see on the screen pieces of life. By the end of the film unwittingly found herself – as if now the most crazy not to go.
