Description: Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than finding something new for CG shores, and THE AWAKENING OF CANDRA is certainly no exception. Made in 1981 (and subsequently shelved for two-and-a-half years, likely due to its content), this mature-subject prime time TV-movie lands recently wedded bride Candra (Blanche Baker) into the fiery pits of Hell itself when a psycho gun-tottin’ redneck (Cliff De Young, in a dynamically-harrowing performance) murders both her husband and dog in the wilderness. When the madman drops her off with the local sheriff (Richard Jaeckel) three days later, Candra is now convinced everything was an accident – but nightmarish flashes of rape, submission, and kidnapping start leaving her to think otherwise. Smelling a big Commie rat, the sheriff enlists the aid of a reluctant psychologist (Jeffrey Tambor, bald even then) so that they can dive into Candra’s unconsciousness in order to discover the truth.
