Peter Coyote plays an irritatingly arrogant American method actor who arrives in Rome to play the part of an obscure emotionally tortured Italian writer in a biopic of his life. When it comes to casting the writer’s muse Coyote hand picks Greta Scacchi’s headshot and before you know it sparks are flying on set and off; he’s making her recite lesbian sexual fantasies while doing her from behind and she’s occasionally shoving her thumb up his ass – well this is a “European love story” after all. Oh and did I mention Coyote’s married to Jamie Lee Curtis, forget the fact that he’s also got two kids, he’s got The Body at home and he’s looking for ass elsewhere? Shame! To complicate matters further; Scacchi has a French lover that gets in a tizz about her affair even though they’re in an open relationship, plus her mother, Claudia Cardinale, is dying of cancer which will lead to some fun euthanasia related moments later in the film. Ho-hum, I came for the Curtis and I stayed for the Scacchi.
