Description: Un Año Sin Amor is the title of the book that is being written by the young gay writer/poet Pablo Pérez, who is suffering from HIV. He recounts one year (and also the last year, he assumes) of his sad and uneventfull life, that is filled with tutoring french, visits to the hospital, and the writing of adverts in which he searches for a companion to end his feeling of loneliness. Never really finding what he is looking for, Pablo starts paying regular visits to gay bars and bdsm clubs, where he again continues his search for love.
Don’t expect a softcore, gay or bdsm film. It’s basically a story about a young man searching for love and affection. Perhaps also the pain and discomfort caused by his terminal illness, makes him search for a surrogate, controllable form of pain that can be combined with love and tenderness. There are hardly any explicit scenes, as the filmmaker never tries to provoke nor exploit the subject matter: it is treated in a respectfull and delicate manner.
