| Storyline Mostly known among the rabid fans of South Indian superstar Rajinikanth, this little gem from the ’80s revolves around a mythical ruby from the 12th century allegedly bestowed with mystical powers.The gem in question was stolen by the British during their colonial reign over the British subcontinent but has now fallen into the hands of a petty thief. In an attempt to outwit the law enforcement who are onto him, he slips the ruby into the bags of an American tourist couple vacationing in India. As it turns out, the couple’s taxi driver is Rajinikanth who unwittingly ends up in possession of the sought-after ruby. What ensues is a series of high-octane car chases, shootouts and skirmishes between local goons (friends of Rajinikanth) and international crime lords as the two sides use every method in the game to regain and retain possession of the ruby. But was it all worth it? Can either side use the powers hidden within the ancient gem to their advantage? Or will it be a matter of brawnpower or local insider information that wins the day. | |
