Angela Bettis plays Joan Burrows a damaged soul who underwent an indescribably traumatic experience at the hands of a vicious serial killer who mutilated then murdered her best buddy as she was forced to look on. Managing to survive her ordeal, she has spent her life bearing the scars emotionally and physically. Now, sixteen years later she returns to her home town to attend her niece’s graduation ceremony and offer some support to her brother who has recently lost his wife. To her horror the murders begin again not long after she has arrived, and the body bears the signature scars of the killer, Bishop. It would seem that the nightmare of Bishop has returned to haunt Joan. Bettis looks suitably traumatised and a welcome (slashed) vein of black humour will rally those ready to spill their stomach during some of the undeniably grim torture scenes.This movie was better than I thought it was going to be heading in; it was a bloody, gory, visceral and often times uncomfortable movie to watch, all which bode well for horror. This movie took no prisoners when it came to the torture porn aspect of things, and for that I say bravo.
