Description: Beth Church awakens in an unfamiliar location, drenched in blood and situated in a chilling ice bath, reminiscent of a gruesome abattoir. She recalls being with child, yet she is gripped with terror upon discovering that her baby has been forcibly taken. This marks the onset of a harrowing odyssey in which she encounters other women who have also lost their infants.
Review: The story recounts the harrowing holiday experience of the newlywed Beth and Cameron Church, who set off to spend Christmas Eve with their family. Beth, who is expectant, is haunted by unsettling dreams and fears for her unborn baby, especially in light of a previous miscarriage. They decide to rest overnight at a motel, inhabited by strange guests and a peculiar manager, which initially seems unremarkable. Their tranquil evening at the pool is soon shattered when Beth inexplicably disappears in the night, after Cameron leaves for a quick bite. Cameron becomes frantic, suspecting everyone from the motel staff to the authorities who arrive to look into Beth’s vanishing and eventually suspect him of assaulting the motel manager. Panicked, Cameron pulls a firearm on the officers and flees in his vehicle. The pressing question he faces is how and where to begin searching for his missing wife, as he grapples with the mystery surrounding not just the motel’s manager, but possibly others as well.
