Description: Walt Kowalski, a retired mechanic and a stern Korean War veteran, fills his days with household repairs, sipping beer, and routine visits to the barber shop every month. He’s wilfully ignored his late wife’s final pleas for him to go to confession, maintaining a vigilant stance with his rifle at the ready, his only company being his dog Daisy. The neighborhood that once consisted of familiar faces has changed dramatically, with many of his old neighbors either having moved away or passed away.
They’ve been replaced by immigrants, whom Walt openly holds in contempt. He is bothered by the changes he sees, such as unkempt lawns and houses owned by foreigners, which do not align with his values. He’s also unimpressed with the local youth, a mix of Hmong, Latino, and African-American teens, who he perceives as aimlessly loitering and acting entitled to the area that has been, in his perspective, handed over to them by their families.
Walt remains alienated, simply enduring his sunset years until one night, he becomes the target of an attempted theft of his prized possession, his “Gran Torino” car.
