Description: Psychological drama Rafael Moreno Alba’s very difficult to look beyond the political context of the time when the film. Between 60’s – 70’s – it’s the final years of the Franco dictatorship, when the slow but sure change in the country matured, we feel the breath of freedom is about to appear, it was clear that the old order of living their last days, months, years but in real life, while leaving everything as it was. Sound familiar? Yes, that’s right. «Las Melancolicas» – this is a typical “predperestroechny” a film full of allusions and parables, the lost and find freedom, the inertia of tradition and about how difficult it is returned to the man once lost dignity … Later on this and almost at the same story took a remarkable “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” Milos Forman, but he, unlike Señor Alba, put in his film exclusively humanist message without short-term political expediency. And stayed in movie history. Well, its Spanish predecessor is now known only compilers cinematic references. Yes, what can I say, if the United States at the time the film was positioned as the horror (???), Dubbed the “Daughter of Exorcism” in order to attract fans of the acclaimed masterpiece Friedkin!

True, the main character «Las Melancolicas» (in an excellent performance by Francisco Rabal), unlike in the film Forman, not the patient mental hospital, and the doctor, who arrived in the dead of the Spanish province of the holy faith in the fact that his efforts will help the unfortunate patient. And the action does not take place in the modern era, and in the XIX century – probably that censors any questions arose. One of the inmates of Bedlam at the convent immediately attracts the attention of a young doctor. Tanya, who suffers from a persecution complex, young and beautiful (unlike the majority of patients), and besides, sometimes behaves quite adequately. Trying to get to the causes that led to the breakdown of her mental health, character Rabal uses hypnosis and achieves amazing results. It seems a little bit more – and the goal will be achieved. Tanya recover and find freedom. But do not think the residents of the surrounding hospital campus. Once they took Tanya’s mother and the witch had a girl in front of a cruel rite of exorcism, in which a woman died and her daughter lost her mind. Finding the victim mad rite of freedom do not like anyone in the town, and a desperate attempt by the doctor is bound to fail. He’s still a riot suit, releasing their charges on a desperate night walk in the city (at something like, is not it?), But it will be meaningless … found freedom delayed, and it leaves the city herald and Tanya, leaving her in parting words , which no political overtones rasslyshit unless deaf. “You’re still going to loose!” … Living Franco was still about five years.

Of course, compare the “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and the «Las Melancolicas» – it is absolutely ungrateful. If the first – the movie of all time, the work of Raphael Alba – just a reflection of its time. But fans of the cult Formanovskii well may be interested. Benefit to the screens Spanish picture came well before America. Yes and actors in it are made at the highest level. Not only the star of the Iberian cinema Francisco Rabal brilliantly played a role, but much less well-known Argentine lectern Gade (Tanya), and actress, who played a patient clinics. If the action is to add dynamics, and the impression is that the album is perfectly aware of what he wants to finish his film, the conclusion to draw the audience, but was not sure what to fill the gap from the opening credits to the final sentence … But this is the trouble of many films which were originally created as a political manifesto. Moreover, that the genius of its author can not be authorized.
