Streets of Death movie

Year: 1987

Duration: 01:33:44

Directed by: Jeff Hathcock

Actors: Tommy Kirk, Larry Thomas, Lawrence Scott

Language: English

Country: USA

Also known as: Kaftes Nyhtes

Description:

Two psychos, disguised as student filmmakers in a van, “start a whole new trend in snuff video,” torture and kill hookers (off screen) and sell the tapes. They also eat Fruit Loops. The quality of this shot-on-video obscurity is extremely low, although the cameraman tries to make things interesting. For all the hookers around, [almost] the only nudity is an old man. CELEBRITY ALERT: A heavy-set, balding Tommy Kirk (who also worked for Larry Buchanan and Al Adamson) plays an alcoholic ex-cop who gives a long serious speech about getting his dignity back and breaks down and cries before attempting to track down the killers on his own. Filmed in Los Alamitos [California].

Shot on video and quite graphic. As awful as this movie is,its still worth a look for anyone who loves bad movies.Dialogue is straight out of the Ed Wood school. You will be able to put words in actors mouths before they even speak them and they will sound just as awful as you thought they would.Lots of fun.

Streets of Death begins as great SOV shite. It’s hammy, it has a fucked up sense of humor, and the serial killer concept is pretty sleazy. Until about halfway through I was very entertained, then Tommy Kirk showed up. Tommy, for those who do not know, was a Disney fixture in the 50s and 60s.  In the 70s he went into carpet cleaning, and I guess he tried to make a comeback in the 80s.  Hope he wasn’t thinking Streets of Death would be his vehicle for reemergence.  Anyway, somehow Tommy cast a pallor over the remainder of the picture for me. I was pretty fucking bored and annoyed for a while. And the music guy seemed to run out of ideas about the time Tommy started taking up screen time.  I’ve grown to be pretty tolerant of 80s crap DX7 and Roland drum machine SOV music, but I almost had to turn the tape off.  The music guy kept doing this drum machine hi-hat thing that, well, urrrggh.  Nevertheless, I recommend Streets of Death.  Check out the clip and screens below, and you’ll see that there is something compelling about this movie.  It has some great little touches, like the hooker who sets up shop in front of a place called the House of Bibles, and lines of dialogue like, “Hey, it was a pleasure sitting on your face,” or “I’m gonna kick your balls off, you chauvinist motherfucker.” Give it a try, just so you can see what they teach at the Ed Wood school.
