Review: After watching the “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” I have the feeling that people like Gilbert almost gone in this world. The image created ingenious Lasse Hallstremom firmly stuck in my mind. The famous Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has also participated in such cult slasher movie like A Nightmare on Elm Street
What the director – that a movie. Amazing! Nearly two hours of pure pleasure and empathy. I liked everything: the actors, the music, the dialogue. Affordable, friendly, kind, correct film. It teaches us compassion, empathy. He teaches us to help without any self-interest and ulterior motives. Close to me the image of the main character and I imagine that I, like anyone, it would be hard not to go crazy on the context in which it is located. Gilbert sacrificed himself, he suffered with a vengeance. And I want to believe that in front of a bright future.
It should take off his hat to his mother and Gilbert – Darlene Cates. Star in this movie – a brave act. We shocked her character and yet is infinite compassion, because she, like all overweight people deserve pity. They need help to cope with the disease.
I would hope that every person living on this planet will discover this wonderful film. After all, these works make our world a better and kinder.

I was quite impressed when I watched that movie in the late 90s. It is also the best performance of DiCaprio imo. Overhyped Johnny Depp is mediocre as usual, but that does not hurt this extraordinary and excellent film.
